Lombard permits are electronically submitted and reviewed though an online portal.
The ideal candidate for the Plan Reviewer job will be knowledgeable in the principles and practices related to this line of work; and have the ability to provide excellent customer service through teamwork, solid communication, and responsiveness.
In addition, the ideal candidate will have the ability to operate with independence and initiative, and exhibit skill in innovative problem solving while working cooperatively with the public and Village departments.
This position works under the general supervision of the Director of Building and Code Enforcement.
Varied responsibilities include:
Review plans and specifications of new buildings, additions and alterations to existing buildings for compliance with the Building Code, Mechanical Code, Accessibility Code, Electrical Code, Plumbing Code, Energy Code, and all other applicable codes.
Prepares electronic mark up on plans regarding discrepancies and code violations found in plans and specifications.
Coordinates the plan review process with the third-party plan reviewers as needed.
Coordinates the plan review process internally and externally, to ensure all internal staff from other Divisions and Departments, as well as external agencies such as the Dupage County Health Department, etc.
Contacts architects or agents to resolve any code issues found.
Effective communication is essential to quickly convey the issue, possible solutions, and keep the process moving in a timely manner.
Consults with architects, engineers, contractors, builders, owners, and others in matters related to design, materials, material standards, and modern construction.
Problem solves to ensure submitted plans contain the requirements for permit issuance and work to commence.
This skill is crucial to this position.
Performs other duties as assigned.
